Traffic

We are working hard to make our afternoon traffic as safe and convenient as possible. I've been observing our afternoon pick up, and I have seen our teachers and staff working very hard. We have a few ideas that we will put in place over the next couple of days to make our afternoon traffic flow more smoothly. We will continue to monitor our afternoon traffic and make improvements where we can. We appreciate your patience. If you have lived through afternoon pick up, you know that it can be tedious. Success boils down to good procedures, a willingness to adapt, and a little grace from everyone. I have invited the NRH police department to observe our afternoon traffic to see if they have suggestions on how to improve. If you have suggestions on how to improve, we invite you to comment here.

As a mom of both a kindergartener and third grader, I like that the older students can meet their younger sibling and get in the car together. Why is is that we don't pick up the same way that we drop off in the mornings? Wouldn't that make the most sense? K & 3 @ 3rd awning, 1 & 4 @ 2nd awning, and 2 & 5 @ 1st awning. It's chaos trying to keep the Kinder students separate from the rest of the school. Then, we can go back to the normal traffic pattern that we are all used to.

I agree with having pick up the same as dropp off, it would make more sense and I would think would have a better flow. I also think something needs to be done to help the parents that are turning left into the pick up area off of Hawk Drive. Several times I have been stuck in the blue lane and not able to merge into the red lane because cars are trying to form a 2nd lane coming into the pick up area or cars won;t allow you to merge at all. We are all there to pick up our children its not a race :)

In a perfect world, the two lane gate entry should be widened to a three lane entry. That is always a bottle-neck, especially in ice and snow. During pick-up and drop-off hours, in our perfect world, there would be a four-way traffic light with protected turning arrows for Northbound cars and two turning lanes from the street for Southbond lanes.

I do agree with Cindy, we do need the gate entry to be widened to three lane entry. I think this would help the traffic flow more smoothly at pick up time. I dont use the drop off area in the morning so I can not comment on that.
